In our coast to coast travel in the United States, after taking a morning tour of the Monument Valley, today we undertake heading towards Williams, our next home for two nights.
Williams It is located about 110 kilometers from the Grand Canyon, but it is where we finally booked the hotel given the high prices of the hotels near that national park.
Our entire tour was through the Route 66, where at the beginning the landscapes were still very arid, to change until they came through large forests and mountains.

On the way we stopped to eat at Tuba city, in the middle of Route 66, to go to a restaurant recommended in the guide that Dolors wore. It was called Hogan And we ate very well. The property was of Navajo Indians and, like the day before, the food was good, abundant and, of course, without alcohol.
Later we stopped a couple of hours in the flagstaff city. Located in northern Arizona, it has a population of around 65,000 inhabitants.
The name of the city of Flagstaff It comes from a mast (flagpole or flagstaff in English) of ponderosa pine erected by an expedition of Bostonians, known as the Second Boston Party, to celebrate the centenary of the United States, on July 4, 1876.

Flagstaff has a strong tourism sector, due to its proximity to the Grand Canyon National Park, heoak creek canyon and the historic Route 66.
We really found the city very cozy, with a lot of commerce, coffee shops, original shops… It is a tourist city, but not only a tourist one. It also gave us the feeling that it would be nice to live there, surrounded by mountains and forests and lakes, in those wooden houses.
After having a few beers on a terrace of a kind of pub / restaurant we continue heading to Williams.
Flagstaff on Route 66 in Arizona
Around 19 hours we arrived at our motel, well located in the center of Williams, a very tourist town where everything is Route 66.
With a population of about 3,000 inhabitants, it is next to the road Intersestate 40. Due to its location near the South Rim of theGrand Canyon National Park, Williams It is an important tourist stop, with many inns and motels, as well as a gas station with 50's decoration.
The town is really lively, with small concerts in bars and on the street. There are also many souvenir shops exploiting the brand Route 66.

After settling in the rooms, we went for a long walk walking through the town. We also take the opportunity to buy dinner in a supermarket.
As a curiosity, Dolors and Miquel's room was a room fully decorated with children's motifs both on the sheets and on the comforters, chairs and paintings. Crowd of bears. We keep wondering what they saw in Miquel and Dolors !!
Anyway, very complete day with Monument Valley and surroundings, road route, food in a Navajo restaurant, Flagstaff, big forests, Route 66 and Williams.
The temperature of the day was very pleasant and varied from 35º in the morning to about 23º in the afternoon.
